How To Protect Your Skin From Sun?

Many people prefer to stay outdoors to enjoy the warm weather and sunshine, make sure you keep your skin protected from the sun when you are out especially in summer.

Here's what you need to know about sun protection and how to protect your skin in sunlight.

How the harmful effects of the sun can be avoided?

Staying away from the sun is the best way to avoid sun damage, but most of us go out on a regular basis. So be careful when you go out and take these safety measures:

  • Don't go outside without applying sunscreen, make it as a daily habit.
  • Don't go outside during mid of the day, from about 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ultraviolet rays, which is a reason for sunburn, are powerful during this time.
  • Wear defensive clothing like long sleeves, a brimmed hat, and spectrum sunglasses that stops rays like UVA and UVB, and clothes to cover skin that’s exposed to the sun.
  • Buy a sunscreen with a water-resistant claim on the tag that will work for 40 to 80 minutes after you get wet. So read the label instructions for how often to reapply as each product has its own level of water resistance.
  • Check SPF(sun protection factor), the higher the SPF, the more safety it normally offers from sunburn. No matter what SPF you apply but, make sure to apply it every 2 hours.
  • At least 3-inch brimmed hats will help protect your nose, cheeks, hair, and neck, which is the equivalent of SPF5. They will also help safeguard your scalp.
  • Keep infants younger than 6 months fully covered and in the shade.
  • Eat foods like watermelon, blueberries, Kiwi, oats, mangoes, and green tea. These skin-loving foods add a little extra sun protection to your diet.
Anyone can use sunscreen. These include men, women, and children.

Are all types of sunscreen safe for use?

Yes. Organic and inorganic are 2 types of sunscreens. They are both secure and they both protect you from harmful rays of the sun, just in different ways.

Recent reports have focused on the absorption of organic sunscreen into the skin, but have found no dangerous effects. If skin absorption is your concern, you can use inorganic sunscreen, which contains Titanium dioxide or Zinc oxide.

As always, it's fine to talk to your doctor if you have any questions or queries.

Are sunscreens safe for children?

Yes. sunscreens are safe for children over age 6 months.

If used uniformly in childhood they can protect skin from skin cancers in later life. Currently, a researcher presented that if sunscreen is applied evenly by children through the age of 18, there will be a 72% reduction in skin cancer cases later in life.
