Condoms sales boomed as India goes under lockdown

A different kind of change has been seen with the sale of condoms in India passing through the roof. Many retailers have seen sales increase by about 25% to 50%.

The coronavirus pandemic has lead to worldwide anxiety but has also increased closeness among couples who are immersed in busy lives, unable to find time to live together.

With this increased affinity, many chemists, as well as e-commerce sites, are revealing increased sales of condoms and contraceptive capsules.

A medical shop owner in South Mumbai, Harshal Shah said: "People have a lot of time now, and they get bored at home. People generally prefer to buy a pack of three, but in the last week, most have purchased packs of 10 and 20."
