Before the April 21 announcement, images and details of VanMoof's new electrified S3 and X3 e-bike were leaked.

VanMoof's third-generation electric bike has been loaded with new brakes, electronic shifting, new saddle, and updated front-hub motor. But possibly the important news is the price: $ 1,998 / € 1,998 for the full-size S3 or the compact X3.

For reference, that new price is plus 500 to $ 1000 low-cost than earlier generations of Dutch company electricity. VanMoof attributes the lower price to its skilled supply chain and the bikes the company now sells. Unluckily, VanMoof is not contributing a trade-in choice for aged bikes, as it has in the past.
The new S3 and X3 will be available in either “light” or “dark” colors, “an upgrade to the S2 & X2 in every way,” without providing complete specs as said by VanMoof.

All we know so far is the code sent to the so-called "friends of VanMoof" and subscribers to the newsletter, allowing the bike to be reserved ahead of time.

The landing page (seen via private Facebook groups, Reddit, etc)gives four big hints on what's to come:
  • Regenerated ergonomics for easy all-day riding
  • The ability to be precision off in all weather conditions
  • Ride acutely, far-off and more efficiently than ever before
  • The industry's first electronic gear shifting for the Smooth Ride so far
Orders from any VanMoof reservation page will get the bike "weeks - possibly months" earlier than the general public.

This is important because VanMoof was so impressed with the S2 and X2 orders at launch that they created a four-month backlog. VanMoof says the S3 and X3 are already in production and "they're ready to compete for even greater demand."

If what is disclosed on the 21st does not meet the buyer's expectations, reservations can be confirmed or rescheduled on April 22nd.
