At all railway stations across the country, tea is going to be sold out in eco-friendly 'kulhads' (clay cups) rather than plastic cups, railway minister Piyush goyal proclaimed on Sunday.
"Today, tea is served in 'Kulhads' at the country's four hundred railway stations, and in the future, we tend to decide to sell tea in 'Kulhads' at all railway stations in the country, Goyal added.
The initiative will be the railway's contribution to a plastic-free Bharat, said Piyush Goyal.
Goyal from his own experience said that he was having tea in ‘Kulhad’ and the taste was really different. "Kulhad saves the environment and employs millions of people," he said.
The North Western Railway Zone has instructed its officials to implement measures to make sure utilize of green catering products at Indian railway stations. As a result, now more than 25 railway stations would serve tea and different food items in eco-friendly kulhads and plates/bowls, the PTI report said.
Currently, Varanasi and Rae Bareli railway stations are using terracotta products for catering.
